The Chris Brown-Rihanna assault scandal has taken over international hip-hop news since their last minute bail on the 2009 Grammy’s last week. Different scenarios have been circling and it’s hard to decide what the real story is. From screaming matches after Brown allegedly received ‘booty-call text messages’, to tossing his Lambo keys out the window nobody really knows who’s to blame and who’s the instigator. Recent ideas throw in Leona Lewis into the mixing pot, claiming that Chris Brown was flirting with the 2006 The X Factor winner. However, spokespeople for the artist state she had no connection to the assault that took place after the pre-Grammy party. What we do know is that Rihanna got it, and apparently it wasn’t the first time.

Rihanna reportedly suffered from a split lip, a bloody nose and severe bruising in her face not to mention death threats. These marks and bruises have made frequent appearances; according to her friends and management, “she’s appeared with mysterious marks or injuries before, but always refused to explain what happened”. Nonetheless many fans of both stars wonder what the future lies for these two; a break up or make up is on the horizon. However, Chris Brown’s recent post on his facebook page points towards a solo road; “You’ll begin to see her true colours. Believe it!” Brown declared along with this status change from “in a relationship” to “single.” Rihanna has fired back and claimed that her relationship with Brown was often an abusive one. Many wonder whether the assault can be tied to the abuse Brown endured as a child from his stepfather. Despite the claims and controversies surrounding the case, there are fans that continue to support the star, while many radio stations have decided to take his songs off the airways. Individual opinions vary across the board; some see Rihanna as the victim of abuse, whereas others see Brown as the victim of a controlling partner. Recent claims point towards Rihanna giving Brown a ‘STD’ and his retaliation. Whatever the feelings, one can’t deny that abuse is unjustifiable.

Officials have refused to state whether Rihanna is the accuser of the domestic abuse case, but say that she is cooperating with investigators to solve it quickly. Many celebrities have shown their support by backing her completely. Kanye West was shocked by the recent event saying, “I was completely devastated by the concept of what I heard…I feel like that’s my baby sis…I would do any and everything to help her in that situation.” That however was fairly censored compared to Jay-Z reaction. The infamous rap artist apparently “hit the roof” and warned Brown to watch his back; he has guided Rihanna since he took her under his wings years back. Other artists like T.I. and actor Terrence Howard also commented on the situation, showing their support for both artists.

Despite the events of the week’s past, the entire case is still under investigation and we may never know the real reason for the attack. Until recently both stars had refrained from making any public statements, but Brown’s biological father insists that his son is “very remorseful” for what took place. One wonders, if he was truly that remorseful why hasn’t he come out and made a public apology. Just yesterday, however, Brown released a public statement apologizing not to Rihanna, but to God:
“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counselling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.”
“Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else.”

Many have attacked his apology claiming it was more disrespectful than if he never made a statement at all. The fact that he blatantly ignored mentioning Rihanna shows just how remorseful he is about his actions.
