I was checking out my dudes over @ MITC and discovered this really dope post about a brand new light rail vehicle (LRV) that the TTC is creating as the new street cars for Toronto. Checkout a prototype video above to see what the future holds for public transit in our city. Some more info below take from the official website of the project…

In 2007, over 10,000 of you told us what you wanted to see in a new streetcar. We heard.

In June 2009, the path was chosen for one of Toronto’s newest transit rides. The TTC entered into a contract with Bombardier to design and build 204 new low floor, light rail vehicles (LRVs) to replace the existing fleet of streetcars. The prototype vehicles will arrive late in 2011 for testing and the new LRVs will be your new ride starting in 2013. There are many important design decisions to be made before then. We are committed to working with Torontonians and our current and future customers to make solid design decisions.

Help design your new ride. Get involved in this important consultation. – TTC (Toronto Transit Commission)

The Future Is Awesome: Project PUMA

datePosted on 19:08, April 7th, 2009 by ildino

The PUMA is a two-wheeled Segway that can drive up to 35 miles on a single charge (35 cents per charge) and is capable of going up to 35MPH.

I found this over @ CrunchGear and the first thing i thought was how easy it would be to park this baby. It turns on the spot. Above was the official video as released by Segway, the company who created PUMA. After the jump are two more detailed videos of the PUMA in real action. As always, here at 1VIBE, the future is awesome!

The Future Is Awesome: Drifting In Japan

datePosted on 06:22, March 15th, 2009 by ildino

A while back we decided to create a new category on 1VIBE called “The Future Is Awesome” where we set out to bring you everything that we find really cool. So this time we show you what it would be like if you were “Drifting In Japan”. Its all about the Nissan baby!

Be on the lookout, because “The Future Is Awesome”.

What better way to kick things off for the year 2009 than to introduce our new design, packed with a better user interface and a few powerful and handy features. It took us a very long time to locate a good WordPress theme which we could customize to fit our needs, but our final search lead us to the Starscape Theme. This theme had everything we were looking for and more.

With this new layout we wanted to:

- have the ability to easily customize the look of the site
- allow visitors to navigate with ease and fast speed through our content
- implement powerful & useful features for the admins and the visitors
- improve the overall speed of the site
- implement digg.com features
- improve users ability to comment and discus our posts
- have the ability to receive user feedback
- allow users to interact with the content instead of simply viewing it
- and believe it or not, we wanted to have a wicked banner!

That was our mission and to see exactly how we managed to accomplish our goals you should continue to read the post below where we provide you screenshots of the new features and some information of how they function.

NOTE: We would be very happy if you gave us comments about what you think of the new design and the new features. All positive and negative opinions are welcomed and we will take everything you say under consideration for future designs for 1VIBE.NET. Thank you!

g-speak overview 1828121108 from john underkoffler on Vimeo.

If you watched the above video you will defiantly remember the movie Minority Report. The technology from the movie was actually created by John Underkoffler, who is one of the co-founders of Oblong. John was the science adviser on the movie and the technology used in Minority Report was what he had been working on at MIT.

The gesture-based g-speak “spatial operating interface” (SOE) software platform has been in development at MIT’s Media Laboratory since the early 1990s and its intended use isn’t as nerdy as we’d expect. It’s meant to facilitate answers to real-world issues such as… (more after the jump)
